We Need People Like This

Being faithful and continuing to show up matters; even if it's unseen. In this sermon, the focus shifts from Paul himself to two of his closest companions: Timothy and Epaphroditus. Brock uses an analogy from the world of baseball—specifically Aaron Judge's historic home run record—to illustrate the powerful role of support and partnership in accomplishing God's work. Just as Judge couldn’t have broken records without Rizzo and Stanton behind him, Paul couldn’t have fulfilled his mission without Timothy and Epaphroditus standing with him.

We’re reminded that faithfulness in the background matters. These two men—Timothy with his proven character and pastoral care, and Epaphroditus with his sacrificial service and grit—demonstrate that shining brightly in God’s kingdom often means showing up, serving faithfully, and standing beside others. This sermon invites us to consider the vital role of those who hold up the arms of God’s leaders and how we, too, can shine by simply being faithful where God has placed us.
