Do You Love Me?
We kick off our new series on the questions of Jesus with one of the most important questions Jesus ever asked: "Do you love me?" from John chapter 21. Jesus asked Peter this question three consecutive times after Peter's denial of him before his crucifixion. To give us a grasp of what it means to love Jesus, Brock takes us in a surprising direction— how do the Devil and his demons relate to God? After all, we could probably learn a lot about love by studying where it is most absent. By comparing our faith to the surprising spiritual attributes of demons, we're pushed to go deeper. We learn that demons can quote scripture, believe in God's existence, and even show reverence - yet they lack the most crucial element: love. This stark contrast urges us to reflect on our own faith. Are we simply going through the motions, or are we truly in love with God? The message reminds us that love is the transformative power that sets disciples apart from demons, making all the difference between a life of empty religion and one of vibrant relationship with our Creator.
