Why Are You Sleeping?

Nov 9, 2025

In the Garden of Gethsemane, as Jesus faced His imminent arrest and crucifixion, He needed His closest friends to watch and pray with Him. Instead, He found them sleeping. This sermon draws a striking parallel between that moment and the story of Daniel in the lion's den—two men facing unthinkable circumstances who turned immediately to prayer. Daniel, even under threat of death, maintained his practice of kneeling three times daily to pray. Jesus, in His agony, sought refuge in communion with the Father. Both understood something we often miss: prayer is not just a religious obligation, but our ultimate refuge and source of strength. The challenge we face today is that our overstimulated, distraction-filled world has robbed us of our ability to give God our undivided attention. We've become spoiled by instant access, throwing up 'fast food prayers' rather than stopping to truly commune with God. This message calls us to reclaim three essential elements through regular, intentional prayer: our attention in a world fighting for it, our devotion when life gets hard, and our defenses against temptation. The invitation is clear—get on your knees, make room for God, and discover what happens when we stop treating prayer as an afterthought and start treating it as the lifeline it truly is.
