Sit with God in your Sin and Let Him Love You
As we dig in to the real work of confession, we turn to Psalm 32, which invites us into a radical understanding of confession that goes far beyond simply listing our mistakes. We discover that true spiritual freedom comes when we sit vulnerably before God with complete honesty, holding nothing back. The opening blessing of the psalm reveals a beautiful, two-sided truth: truly happy are those whose sins are forgiven AND who live their lives in compete honesty before God. Many of us have experienced forgiveness through Christ yet remain miserable because we're still pretending, still managing our image, still trying to willpower our way into holiness. But darkness cannot be conquered by willpower alone—only by light. Through three Hebrew words for sin, we learn that confession isn't just about behaviors but about the entire ecosystem of brokenness we operate in: the actions we've taken, the crooked motives of our hearts, our rebellion against God's kingship, and even the trauma and sin done to us and around us. When we bring this full picture to God in prayer—not after we've cleaned ourselves up, but exactly as we are—we position ourselves to experience the transformative kindness that leads to genuine repentance. This isn't about God waiting for a better version of us; it's about opening ourselves completely so His light can shine into every dark corner.
